Silvia Hosseini is a writer, book critic and a teacher working in Helsinki, Finland. Her debute Pölyn ylistys [In Praise of Dust] was released on February 2018.
Pölyn ylistys got very positive attention. It was awarded the Kalevi Jäntti Prize in 2018, and was also nominated for the Helsingin Sanomat Literature Prize. It’s a collection of personal essays on literature and popular culture. Hosseini has also published numerous essays, articles and book reviews in different magazines and anthologies.
Currently Hosseini is exploring themes such as travel, corporality, feminism, robotics and post-humanism, and culture and politics in the Middle East, especially Iran.
In addition to writing, Hosseini teaches Finnish and literature in high school and creative essay writing for adults. She as also participated in many public discussions and podcasts, given public speeches on literature, society and politics, and hosted various events. She talks regularly in YLE radio (Finnish Broadcasting Company).
